Pronosco DXR-BMD bone densitometry system has been installed which is a digital system that assesses cortical bone thickness, porosity and trabecular thinning to determine bone density. This system detects osteopenia and osteoporosis. Osteoporosis is a disease that is prevalent in our community. The bones become weak and hence fracture quite easily. This causes great morbidity and resulting disability take a heavy toll financially and mentally by reducing the quality of life. Osteoporosis can be prevented if adequate measures are taken early in life. Bone that has been lost can not be recovered, however, further bone loss can be prevented or considerably slowed. Women are five times more prone to osteoprosis compared to men. Maximum bone loss occurs in the first few years around menopause.
Early detection of osteopenia and osteoporsis can prevent later age morbidity and fractures.
